Tuesday October 11, 2022
Southwick Boys and Girls XC both picked up wins on Tuesday, 10/11
vs. Palmer.
The Boys led by Nick Sikand swept the top 4 places and defeated 
Palmer Boys, 16-47 with Jess Petschke in 2nd, Adam Rokicki in 3rd
and Connor Martin in 4th.
The Girls were again led by Hannah Bannish and they also defeated
Palmer 17-46.
Both teams are now 7-1 and in 2nd place in their respective leagues.
Overall records are 15-4 (boys) and 15-2 (girls).
Final league meet will be at home on Tuesday, 10/18 vs Monson and
Granby.

The resurgence of the Southwick Cross Country Program was on full display

Tuesday as both the Boys and Girls hosted Pope Francis and Granby for sole

possession of 2nd place in the Pioneer South League.

The boys, led again by Junior Nick Sikand in 3rd place overall, defeated Pope Francis 25-32 

and Granby 25-30, improving their record to 14-4 and 6-1 in league competition.  

The 14 wins for the Boys is the most wins in a season in well over a decade and if they hold

on to 2nd place it will be their best league placing going back prior to 2009.

The depth of the Boys program was on full display as not only did Sikand better his course and

school record from last year but Jess Petschke, Adam Rokicki, Zach Zastawny and first year

runner Connor Martin also bettered the old record!  Also factoring in the team scoring were

veterans Anthony Avonti, Andy Erdem, and Aaron Petschke and first year runner Asher Rose.

The Girls  also displayed their team strength defeating Pope Francis 25-30 and Granby 16-47.

First year Senior runner Hannah Bannish continued her outstanding season with an impressive win in 

21:28, running unchallenged and yet shattering the old course record by 1:43!  The old record was

also bettered by 8th Grader, Tara Reiser finishing 3rd overall and Senior Kayla Crosier with her 4th place

finish.  Seniors Molly Lafayette, Elleigh Sanctuary and Sophia Erdem all delivered for the Rams as did 

Samantha Sanchez who broke the 7th Grade Course record by nearly 3 minutes!

The Girls also now have their best record in over a decade, standing at 14-2 while also holding 

2nd place in the Pioneer Valley South with a 6-1 league record.

The Rams will close out their season at home, celebrating Senior night on Tuesday, 10/18

Tuesday September 27, 2022
The Boys XC lost to the first place Hampshire team, 19-39 but beat 

Pioneer 21-38 and Hopkins Academy 17-46.
Nick Sikand again was the #1 runner for Southwick but the performance 
of the day for the Boys was Jake Buchter moving up to the #4 slot on the team.
The Boys are now 11-3 (4-1 in the league) and their 11 wins are the most
recorded by a Southwick Boys team in a season since prior to 2009.
The Girls also lost to the first place Hampshire team, 18-42, while beating
Pioneer and Hopkins Academy 15-50 and 18-42 respectively.
The Girls were led once again by Hannah Bannish who placed 3rd overall.
The Girls are now 11-2 and also 4-1 in league races.


Saturday September 24, 2022

Led by Aaron Petschke's first win, Southwick Boys defeated Mahar (24-31),
Springfield International Charter School (22-45) and Veritas (15-40).  Scoring
for the Rams behind Aaron were Jess Petschke, Jake Buchter, Jager Nero
and Max Austin.
The Girls defeated Springfield International (19-42) and Veritas (15-50).
Kayla Crosier took the win followed by 7th Grader Sammy Sanchez.  Also
factoring in the scoring were Hannah Bannish, Tara Reiser, Addie Thompson,
Rebecca Berterra and Syrina Asfalg.  
The Boys record now stands at 9-2 (4-0 in the league) and the Girls are at
9-1 (also 4-0 in the league).


Tuesday September 20. 2022 - Stanley Park, Westfield.
Southwick, St. Mary's, Westfield Tech

Both the Boys and the Girls swept their races.
The Boys beat Westfield Tech 17-46 and defeated St. Mary's 16-47.
Nick Sikand won the race with a PR on the course and he was followed
by Jess Petschke and Zach Zastaway who both also set PR's for themselves.
The Girls led by Hannah Bannish defeated Westfield Tec 19-44 and 
St. Mary's 16-46.
It was Hannah's 3rd victory of the season and she was supported with
strong runs by teammates Tara Reiser and Kayla Crosier.
The Boys are now 6-2 overall and 4-0 in league races while the Girls
are 7-1 overall and also 4-0 in the league.
Over the weekend the Boys placed 10th at the Ted Dutkiewicz Memorial Invitational and the Girls placed 8th.  

RAMS Cross Country raced against Hampden Charter, PVCICS and Mohawk on Wednesday September 14, 2022.

The Boys Team defeated Hampden Charter 15-50, but lost very close ones

to Mohawk, 26-29 and PVCICS 28-29. 

Against Mohawk, Southwick got their 5th runner in before Mohawk's 5th, but it wasn't enough to make up for Mohawk's 1,2 finish.

Against PVCICS Southwick got 7 runners in before PVCICS's 5th runner but as with Mohawk, was unable to overcome PVCICS's 1,2 finish.

Southwick Boys are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 within their league.

The Girls Team, Hannah Bannish won her 2nd race of the year pacing Southwick to a 15-50 victory over Hampden and a 23-32 victory over PVCICS.  

Southwick fell to Mohawk 23-33.

The Southwick Girls are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in their league.
