Senior, Mackenzie Loudon competed in 3 individual events and was on the 4x200 Relay. In the 55m prelim, she was the 9th seed going into the event. She qualified for the finals with a time of 7.61 and then made the podium with an 8th place finish in 7.60. The difference between 5th place and 8th place was a mere 5/100th of a second!
In the 300m, Mackenzie was the 8th seed but with school record-smashing time of 42.03 she was on the podium again - in 4th place! That time qualified her for the MIAA All-States Meet of Champions next weekend in Boston!
Mackenzie had to leave in the middle of the High Jump competition after clearing 4-10 to run the 300m. She returned directly afterwards to try 5 feet but was unable to clear on her 3 attempts. She finished in 12th place. Had she cleared 4-10 on her first attempt instead of her second, she would have made the podium as an 8th place finisher. It’s also possible that with fresh legs she might have jumped higher.
Finally, Mackenzie joined Ava, Kayla and Londyn on the 4x200 Relay. They were the 21st seed. Although they did not break their previous school record, they did run fast enough to move up to a 16th place finish.
With the points earned, the SRS Girls finished in 21st place out of 35 scoring teams out of a total of 80+ participating teams. Obviously, many teams did not score any points. The only Western Mass team scoring higher than us was South Hadley in 7th place.
Well done athletes and coaches!!
